Faculty Training Course
The faculty training course, Essentials of Course Design, Development & Teaching at BSPH, is designed to provide a useful instructional resource for new faculty, as well as guest faculty and existing faculty, by covering topics essential to delivering a course that meets the quality standards of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition to practical content and resources, the course itself models varied media and content delivery techniques available through the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and CoursePlus. It brings in many voices from around the school, including CTL staff, faculty, and leadership.
The course includes knowledge checks and practical learning activities, and therefore goes beyond providing resources and information. Planned topics include:
-
Getting Started: Welcome and Logistics
-
Proposing a Course at the Bloomberg School
-
Designing a Course
-
Teaching for All Learners: Accessibility and Universal Design for Learning
-
Developing a Course: First Steps
-
Producing Course Content
-
Using CoursePlus
-
Beyond CoursePlus: Technologies for Teaching
-
Delivering and Managing Online Courses
-
Delivering and Managing On-Site, Blended, and Hybrid Courses
-
Reflecting on a Course
Note: As of January 2023, not all topics are currently available. However, the course continues to evolve.
