Heather Schwitalla
Instructional Designer
As the Open Course Support Specialist, Heather supports the course production process from the initial planning stages, through content production, to course launch, maintenance, and review.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in global studies with a minor in sustainability studies from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities and a Master of Arts in adult education and training from Seattle University, as well as an Instructional Designer Certificate from the Online Learning Consortium.
Prior to working for the Center for Teaching and Learning, Heather worked in many roles, including in refugee resettlement, energy assistance, affordable housing, and as a teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages to adult learners in higher education settings.
Heather’s favorite parts of course creation include crafting course outlines that integrate evidence-supported learning best practices, generating engaging discussion questions, and building course activities in Rise 360.
